Register to attend before Monday 11th February

Each HEI submitting to the Research Excellence Framework is required to develop, document and apply a code of practice on the fair and transparent identification of staff with significant responsibility for research (where an HEI is not submitting 100% of Category A eligible staff); determining who is an independent researcher; and the selection of outputs.

Draft guidance on producing a code of practice was published in July 2018 (REF 2018/03). A final version of this guidance will be published at the end of January 2019.

The three workshops will take place on the following dates and locations:

  • Birmingham, 18 February, 9.30-12.30

  • London, 21 February, 9.30-12.30 (full)

  • Glasgow, 25 February, 9.30-12.30

The aim of these workshops is to enable HEIs to share their approaches to the three aspects of the code of practice:

  • Identifying staff with significant responsibility for research

  • Identifying independent researchers

  • Selecting outputs.

The workshops are aimed at senior managers and research professionals involved in developing their institution’s code of practice.

Places at this event are free; however, will be limited to a maximum of two participants per institution across the three workshops (not per event). Please ensure individuals are registered for one date/location only. Where there are more than two registered delegates from one institution, the REF team will liaise with the relevant REF contact to confirm the names of the two attendees.

Register here before Monday 11 February.

In addition to the workshops the REF team will be hosting a series of webinars relating to equality and diversity related issues in February 2019. One of these webinars will be a live Q&A with the REF team and the chair of EDAP on Wednesday 13 February at 12 noon. Please click here for further details.
